Corpus Christi Mass and Procession 2023 Recap
On June 11, the SSPX community in Ontario celebrated the Feast of Corpus Christi with a Solemn High Mass, and a procession through the streets of Markham. We were blessed to once again host this Mass and procession at the Cathedral of the Transfiguration in Markham where we were able to accommodate the large number of attendees. Over 450 faithful attended that ceremony, including families, children and young people.
With help from the choirs from New Hamburg, Orillia and Park Hill, the voices echoed beautifully in the large space surrounded by the beautiful Eastern-style iconography that fills the church. Following the Solemn High Mass, The Blessed Sacrament was then brought out in procession into the streets of Markham. Father Boulet was assisted by Fr. Stannus as deacon and Fr. Rion as subdeacon to lead the way, joined by other priests, a large group of altar boys, the large choir, a group of boarders from OLMC and hundreds of faithful following behind them.
The procession led to an outdoor altar of repose, where everyone knelt in adoration to honour our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. Following, the procession returned to the Cathedral for the final Benediction.
Afterward, the faithful shared in fellowship and food as the rain began on the beauitful Sunday evening. A true testament to the beauty of the faith and a blessing to be joined by those from communities all across Ontario as we together celebrated the faith and the Holy Eucharist.
We hope that the Holy Ghost may use our witness to the streets walked through to spread the message of our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. We look forward to watching our community continue to grow in the coming years, and we pray for a larger permanent church building for Toronto where we will be able to continue to hold such memorable and beautiful events.
If you were unable to join us, the Mass and Procession were livestreamed and can be found archived on our YouTube Channel by clicking here.
